OFFSTAGE: Carrie Underwood: “People Love Girl Drama”

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

If Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift were in some kind of scandalous feud, it would definitely make for good headlines. That’s what Underwood told The Guardian newspaper in London during an interview before her appearance at the Country 2 Country music festival. Asked why the press wants to start a rivalry between the two insanely famous country singers, Underwood said, “People love girl drama. You look at the show Nashville, which has just started airing here, and there’s not that many females in the business. There are way more men. It’s a lot harder to make it, so if anything, we should all be really supportive,” she said. Her remarks kind of mirror what Swift had said in a recent Vanity Fair story when she noted, “There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women.” In The Guardian interview, Underwood added, “I don’t know, it just makes for good headlines, I guess.” So if there truly is no girl drama in her life, then what is Underwood doing with her free time? Describing her recent birthday, she said, “I actually ended up taking care of my husband who wasn’t feeling well. I spent my 30th birthday eating cake by myself.”
