OFFSTAGE: On Little Big Town’s Side of the Bed

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

Little Big Town knows just how to ask all of the saddest questions: How’d you get so far away? Are you sleeping with your own regret? Aren’t you even gonna make a sound? And are you lonely like I’m lonely? It’s like a ballad of a very loveless marriage, and it’s their new single “Your Side of the Bed.” Band member Karen Fairchild told CMT Radio, “You’d have to be dead to not have felt this in your relationship at some point. Whether it was one night of not connecting or whether it’s a struggle inside of a marriage of trying to work it out and feeling very lost and separated from someone that you’re lying in a bed with.” The song obviously paints a pretty miserable picture of being in a relationship like this. But maybe, for a few people, the lyrics will become like a four-minute therapy session and force them to talk about bringing both sides of the bed back together again.
