OFFSTAGE: Faith Hill Takes Herself Out of Sunday Night Football

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

Faith Hill will no longer be singing the “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night” theme before each Sunday Night Football game. Since she was my favorite part of the game, it means I will no longer be caring about football. “Amazing 2 have been part of SNF — an honor,” Hill wrote on Twitter and Facebook first thing Monday morning (April 15). “I’ve just let everyone there know it’s time 2 let someone else rock the open. Difficult decision. Kinda emotional. Love all u guys at SNF — I’ll b watching!!!” She didn’t say why she’s relinquishing her role, but maybe this means she’s busy making new music. Or just that she’d been at it for long enough. Hill took over the opening-song gig from Pink back in August 2007. “Around our house in football season there’s a big routine. Dinner has to be planned out around the game, homework has to be finished. It’s an all-gather-around the television time,” she’d told reporters back then. “I’ve learned when to ask questions and when not to ask them — like in the middle of a replay.” There’s no word yet on who will replace Hill.

Alison makes her living loving country music. She's based in Chicago, but she's always leaving her heart in Nashville.
