OFFSTAGE: Hillary Scott’s Advice: “Own That”

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

Leave it to a girl to give the best advice to the girls on The Voice. Lady Antebellum’s Hillary Scott was on the show earlier this week as a mentor for Adam Levine’s singers. And while his advice was very ambiguous — telling the contestants to make the song floaty and triumphant but haunting — Scott’s advice was pretty straightforward and very empowering. “You are you. And you’re beautiful. And you deserve to be here,” Scott said to Amber Carrington. “Own that.” Ultimately, Carrington did own that as she won her battle round after singing a duet of Pink’s “Try” with Sasha Allen. The song was chosen by Levine, but Scott told the singers why she loved it, as well. “One of the most beautiful things about this song is there’s something so hypnotic about it,” she said. “And wherever you are in your life, put yourself in that song.”

Alison makes her living loving country music. She's based in Chicago, but she's always leaving her heart in Nashville.
