OFFSTAGE: Carrie Underwood Makes a Make-A-Wish Pal

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

I don’t know what’s cooler — the fact that Carrie Underwood made a new friend through the Make-a-Wish Foundation or that that new friend tweeted about it like crazy. Haley Gort has been battling a brain tumor for two years. Thanks to the foundation’s donated airline miles, Gort, 18, flew from Michigan to Florida for Underwood’s Saturday (April 20) show. Through the foundation, she and her mom received concert tickets and backstage passes. Before the show, Gort told the local Michigan newspaper about her rough two months of treatment. “The chemo was way worse than the radiation. Those two months weren’t very fun,” she said. “I had to sit in a chair for three hours for three days straight hooked up with an IV and feeling like crap. Then for about a week after, I was nauseous and vomiting. I couldn’t keep food down, and I lost my hair.” But after the show, it seemed like all Gort could talk about was Underwood. “That was the best moment of my entire life. Thank you so much @CarrieUnderwood. See ya out there!” she tweeted. After the concert, she added, “Best night of my life. I will never forget it! @CarrieUnderwood you don’t know how much that meant to me! #amazing.” Then later, after Underwood tweeted a picture of the two of them, Gort added, “Okay, all in one day I meet her and she tweets me? Could life get any better?!?! @CarrieUnderwood is awesome. End of story.” The day after the show, it seemed like Gort was wishing the night could’ve lasted forever. “I just really want to go back to last night, I miss my bestfriend @CarrieUnderwood!! Kidding! #Butseriously…” she joked.
