OFFSTAGE: Guess Kristen Bell’s CMT Music Awards Co-Host

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

The world is her oyster, you know? Kristen Bell could probably have anyone she wanted standing by her side helping her host the 2013 CMT Music Awards. But so far, she hasn’t really given any good clues as to who her co-host will be.

“Yay! Heading back to Nashville to host the #CMTawards, June 5 on @CMT!” she tweeted. “This year I have an awesome, new co-host! Who do u think it’ll b.” And that’s all Bell has said.

At first, I thought it might be me. Just joking about that, but Bell and I are from the same part of suburban Detroit, and when I met her at last year’s show, we seriously hit it off. But I haven’t had a call from her yet, so it’s probably not me. Or maybe it’s another Detroit-area native — Kid Rock — who hosted the CMT Music Awards a few years ago. Some of Bell’s Twitter followers have guessed co-hosts such as a sloth, Tom Cruise and the late Dick Clark. No, no, obviously no.

So if not any of those, let’s guess who it might be and why:

Bell has been on Ashton Kutcher’s Punk’d before. So could it be Kutcher? He is so into country music. Just read his tweets from Stagecoach this past weekend if you don’t believe me.

Remember Leighton Meester from the Country Strong movie? Well, she was one of Bell’s co-stars from her long run as the narrator on Gossip Girl. Hmm.

Or, and this could be so perfect, I’m thinking Hayden Panettiere. They are already pals, and Panettiere is one of the big stars of Nashville.

How about Carrie Underwood? They are both passionate about being vegetarians, and I could see them being so good together.

I suppose it could be a man. And/or a country star. So let’s think about who might fit. Keith Urban is probably too busy with American Idol. Luke Bryan just hosted the ACM Awards . Same goes for Blake Shelton. But what about Adam Levine, Blake’s rival on The Voice?

Toby Keith has already been there and done that — hosting last year’s show with Bell. Maybe another country star will join her on the June 5 awards show.

Let us know who you think might be sharing the stage with Bell.

Alison makes her living loving country music. She's based in Chicago, but she's always leaving her heart in Nashville.
