Carrie Underwood Gives Thanks to God at 2013 CMT Music Awards

Millions of people make Carrie Underwood‘s career go around — and that obviously includes the multitude of fans who voted “Blown Away” as video of the year at the 2013 CMT Music Awards on Wednesday night (June 5) in Nashville.

Of course, Underwood launched her country career with “Jesus, Take the Wheel” and still records spiritually-laced songs like “Temporary Home” and her new single, “See You Again.” So it shouldn’t surprise anyone that her acceptance speech began with words of gratitude to God.

“Whew, the good Lord has been very good to me — well, all of us in this room, for a long time,” she told the fans. “First and foremost, I’d like to just thank Him for our love of music.”

Underwood also praised Randi St. Nicholas, the video’s director.

“Randi St. Nicholas is an extremely talented director, and I am so lucky that I got to work with her,” she said. “We put our brains together and came up with a video that I’m really proud of. She’s amazing.”

With her radiant smile, the singer added, “My husband, it’s his birthday! So, I got you a present! My fan club members and all the people here in town for CMA Music Fest awesomeness — and the fans — thank you so much! CMT, thank you! God bless you guys. You’re amazing. I don’t deserve this. Thank you.”

Of course, Carrie Underwood does deserve the award — and that’s because the fans voted. And there’s no doubt that we will indeed see her again.
