Keith Urban and Little Big Town’s “The Chain” Was Off the Hook

2013 CMT Music Awards Collaboration Could Be Preview of Their Upcoming Tour

Little Big Town covering Fleetwood Mac might sound like secondhand news. After all, they’re buddies with Lindsey Buckingham . But when you link Keith Urban into “The Chain” in front of a wild CMT Music Awards crowd, as they did Wednesday night (June 5) in Nashville, it’s totally off the hook.

From the very start of their career, Little Big Town has drawn Fleetwood Mac comparisons — and, to my knowledge, they’ve never complained about it. What band wouldn’t be grateful to draw comparisons to one of the most popular groups of all time?

Plus, like Fleetwood Mac, there’s a romantic angle to Little Big Town because Jimi Westbrook and Karen Fairchild are married. But unlike the ongoing personal saga of Fleetwood Mac, you almost never see internal drama with Little Big Town. They’re some of the nicest, most genuine folks in country music.

The rumors of a special guest started on the red (or was that purple?) carpet, when CMT’s Katie Cook interviewed the quartet. And now it makes perfect sense. Urban introduced the band, even noting that they’re about to embark on the highly-anticipated Light the Fuse tour together later this year. All he had to do was hop up onstage, grab his guitar and shred — and he always makes it look easy.

On Twitter, Urban wrote:

PS: Keith, don’t stop thinkin’ about tomorrow — or July 18 when his tour launches in Cincinnati.
