"Music Independence Day" Blowout Coming on July 4

MTV, VH1 and CMT Will Serve Up Ultimate Party Playlist With Rock, Pop, EDM, Hip-Hop and Country Tunes

The Fourth of July is typically about grilling franks and shooting fireworks. But this year, MTV, CMT and VH1 are launching the first-ever "Music Independence Day," with an all-day, on-air showcase for artists across all three networks. The blowout will run 6 a.m.-6 p.m. on MTV, VH1 and CMT, serving up the ultimate party playlist for fans of pop, country, hip hop, indie and EDM.

You'll not only get the superstars you know, but also new artists and a chance to directly support those who work so hard to play the music we love. Emerging acts who are looking to build their fanbase will get a chance to reach millions of new fans on the popular music TV networks, exposing their music to legions of new supporters through the Artist Platform, a music discovery site that powers MTV/CMT/VH1's music network of 60 million passionate music fans online and 100 million homes on-air.

"We want to let fans discover and really love up musicians, give a tip, buy them a beer or simply send a message of support," said Van Toffler, president of Viacom Music Group. "We have a history of introducing new artists, celebrating our audiences favorite established superstars and providing a forum for all to reveal their influences and the stories behind their music. So we're going to celebrate the music, let musicians get heard, promoted and loved. That ain't all bad."

The Artist Platform lets fans connect with the artists they love and new artists they will love and gives artists the power to claim or create their own page in a high-traffic environment that offers unparalleled opportunities for exposure on television networks and beyond. Through the Platform, fans can watch and listen to artists' music and stories and check out exclusive performances and interviews and purchase merchandise from their favorite new bands. Like what you hear? Then show your support through buying music or leaving a "tip" through the Artist Platform Tip Jar.

To participate in "Music Independence Day," artists simply claim or create their page on the Artist Platform on MTV, VH1 and CMT and opt in to "Music Independence Day."

From there, select artists will be considered to have their video and music heard on MTV, CMT and VH1 and featured prominently across digital and mobile platforms. Artists who are not selected will still be part of the day simply by driving their fans to their page via social networks and #MusicIndependenceDay, where they can ask fans to leave tips, purchase music or show their support however the artist chooses.

MTV's celebration will include a block party of music hosted by artists that will feature eclectic genres and themes while spotlighting independent artists that have emerged from Artists.MTV as well as themed video hours, intimate performances and some of the bigger music moments throughout MTV history.
