OFFSTAGE: Rayna James Gets Emmy Nod for Nashville

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

I know, I know. Rayna James isn’t real. She’s just a character, and the Emmy Award nomination is really for Connie Britton as outstanding lead actress in a drama series for her role on Nashville. But that’s just how good she is to me. When Nashville is on, she ceases to be Britton and becomes James. This nomination has James/Britton up against some pretty outstanding actresses on some very popular shows. I’d be most afraid of the competition from Michelle Dockery in Downton Abbey and Kerry Washington in Scandal, but at least Britton is a seasoned Emmy vet. This is her fourth nomination and hopefully will be a win for her this time. Right after the Sept. 22 Emmy Awards, Britton and the rest of the Nashville cast will be heading back into our living rooms when the new season premieres on Sept. 25. When we can finally find out what Deacon thinks of Maddie’s abrupt revelation that he is her father, what will become of Juliette post-CMA win, whether or not Gunnar will put a ring on it and if Teddy feels more pain from his drunk-Deacon assault or the thought of his future with his newly-pregnant mistress. And, most importantly, we’ll be able to see the physical and emotional toll the finale’s car accident has had on Deacon and Rayna.

Alison makes her living loving country music. She's based in Chicago, but she's always leaving her heart in Nashville.
