OFFSTAGE: You Don’t Know Kip Moore

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

You may think you know Kip Moore. Like, “Oh, yeah. He’s that guy who sings about trucks and beer money and pretty girls.” But Moore doesn’t want to be pigeonholed like, well, anything. “I never want to be one of those guys that you know what’s coming. I want people to never know what’s coming from me,” Moore told me the last time he was in Chicago. “So on my next record, there will be a common thread to the sound of the album, but the topics will be all over the place.” Could it just be that he’s not in Hawaii anymore? Moore spent six months there before he made the move to Nashville and said the journey put him in a place of mind for that first record. “That first record is a lot of remembering things, a lot of nostalgic things,” he said. “That’s what a place will do when you’re in isolation with nothing but your thoughts.” But Moore promises his follow-up project will be different because his life is different now. “I haven’t been stranded on an island by myself,” he laughed. “Now it’s more about life on the road and how I see different things.”

Alison makes her living loving country music. She's based in Chicago, but she's always leaving her heart in Nashville.
