This is how Hunter Hayes kind of approached his new hit song, “I Want Crazy.” He wondered about all those things you wonder about when you first start to fall in love. “It’s like, ‘Can I say that? Can I do that? Is that cool? Is that hip? Is that accepted?,’” he said in a radio interview. “It’s like, ‘Who cares! Hold hands in public!’”
Hayes wrote the song with Lori McKenna and Troy Verges and said that he wrote exactly what he was thinking. “You enter a relationship and I feel like both parties end up walking on the cautious side — at least I do — for a little while,” said Hayes. So the song ends up wishing for a love that’s the crazy opposite of the cautious side: The can’t-sleep-can’t-breathe-without-your-love side. Or, the it-ain’t-right-if-you-ain’t-lost-your-mind side.
