Despite a year full of exciting new projects and joyful baby news, Sugarland still find themselves amidst breakup rumors. In a recent interview with CMT Hot 20 Countdown , Kristian Bush cleared up any existing speculation.
“I love that people are interested. It’s one of my favorite things,” Bush says. “They’re like, ‘Are y’all finished?’ … I’m like ‘Oh my gosh, no.'”
He continues, “I’ve been making music for 20 years. I mean, before I had Sugarland, I had another record deal with another band, so this is just what I do when I wake up in the morning, and it will be what I do when I wake up in the morning tomorrow. Jennifer [Nettles] and I will get back to it as soon as we get back to it.”
With new music of their own and a venture in producing, both Bush and Nettles are making good use of this in-between time.
“This time that we’ve had where she’s been having a baby. … It’s the kind of time that you usually don’t get in a career at this point, and I’m just so grateful for it,” Bush says.
He also maintains that there is no need for alarm. His relationship with Nettles is like family, and the two couldn’t be more excited for each other.
“Oh my God, Jennifer is putting a record out. I couldn’t be anything except her biggest fan,” Bush said. “We’ve been playing together for years.”
Nettles’ solo album, which she recorded with producer Rick Rubin, is expected to be released in the fall. She and husband Justin Miller welcomed their first child in December.
