OFFSTAGE: Brett Eldredge’s Bet Gets Wet

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

“I made a bet with my crew that if ‘Don’t Ya’ went #1 I’d go skydiving….in a week, look up in the sky at the dude peeing his pants.”

That was Brett Eldredge‘s tweet on Aug. 18 when his debut single did indeed make it to the top of the charts. So now what? The country newcomer — who is allegedly afraid of heights — has to make good on his promise.

“I’m just enjoying every minute of what’s going on right now. I feel really lucky and blessed for that. I’m just trying to take it one day at a time and really enjoy it,” Eldredge said in a radio interview. The rest of his album Bring You Back is so solid, I think he better get used to his sky diving ritual. Remember when the Dixie Chicks got little chicken feet tattooed on their feet every time they celebrated a No. 1?
