OFFSTAGE: Tim McGraw Calls His Mom His Hero

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that's happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

Just when you think you know a guy. Tim McGraw told Parade.com some things I've never heard him say before. Like this, about heroes: "My mom is my hero. And my wife. She's my hero because she raises three daughters and me. But my mom inspired me to dream when I was a kid, so anytime anyone inspires you to dream, that's gotta be your hero," McGraw said.

And that performing with Faith Hill makes him better at his job. "Being onstage with her makes me better because I can't just slouch off when I'm with her because she's going to be on her game every night," he said. "I think we get caught up in singing with each other. When I'm doing my thing, it's sort of just me with the band cutting loose, but I really love just singing with her and getting caught up in the moment with her."

And that his daughters do not listen to his music. "Mumford & Sons is a big hit at our house. One Direction, of course, is a big hit at our house. But certainly not dad," he said. "They don't listen to dad very often."

So maybe McGraw is the girls' hero, but he's just not on their playlist.
