Shovels & Rope Begin Fall Tour on Sept. 6

Duo Released Deluxe Edition of 'O Be Joyful' in May

Americana duo Shovels & Rope will begin their fall headlining tour on Sept. 6 in Montreal. Currently the tour is scheduled through Nov. 1-3 for the Voodoo Music Experience in New Orleans.

Based in Charleston, S.C., the duo is nominated in four categories at the Americana Music & Awards ceremony, slated for Sept. 18 in Nashville. They will compete for emerging artist, duo/group, album (O Be Joyful) and song ("Birmingham"). The video for "Birmingham" was added to rotation on CMT and CMT Pure earlier this year.

Comprised of married couple Michael Trent and Cary Ann Hearst, the duo issued a deluxe version of their 2012 album O Be Joyful in May. That updated collection includes a newly recorded version of "Gasoline," one of their earliest songs that was originally included on a self-released project in 2008.

"When Shovels & Rope first recorded 'Gasoline,' we weren't even sure we were gonna be a touring band," they said in a statement. "Fast forward three years and 600 shows later, 'Gasoline' had taken on a new life, its arrangement and spirit changed and the new recording reflected that. It was an interesting way to reflect on how our band had developed into its own personality and sound, given the chance to work it out on the road."
