The Gibson Brothers repeated as the big winners at the International Bluegrass Music Association Awards on Thursday night (Sept. 26) in Raleigh, N.C. The ensemble collected their second consecutive entertainer of the year honor, while Eric Gibson won in the bluegrass songwriter category. In addition, their single “They Called It Music” was named the IBMA’s song of the year.
Meanwhile, Junior Sisk and Claire Lynch received the male and female vocalist prizes. Della Mae won in the emerging artist category, and the Boxcars earned instrumental group honors. Balsam Range picked up the album of the year trophy for Papertown.
In addition, guitarist Tony Rice and the late Paul Warren were inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame. Warren is best known for his lengthy tenure in Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs’ band, the Foggy Mountain Boys.
Hosted by Steep Canyon Rangers, the event featured performances from Balsam Range, the Bluegrass Youth All-Stars, Blue Highway, Dailey & Vincent, the Del McCoury Band, the Gibson Brothers, Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder, Kenny & Amanda Smith, Steep Canyon Rangers, Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out and Rhonda Vincent & the Rage.
