Lucy Hale Prepares for Her Country Debut

Pretty Little Liars Star Stays True to Her Tennessee Roots

It doesn’t get much cuter or sweeter than Lucy Hale . I met the actress and singer for the first time on the red carpet of the BMI Country Awards earlier this week, and the conversation quickly turned from fashion to mutual friends and to making a date for all of us to eat Vietnamese food together.

How many Hollywood stars do you know that would be so gracious?

I like to think it’s Hale’s Memphis, Tenn., raising that makes her so down to earth and lovable. She originally moved to Los Angeles as a teenager for a record deal, but with a gorgeous face like that, it was only a matter of time before she found herself in front of the cameras.

She’s the star of the ABC Family series Pretty Little Liars, but she never gave up her dreams to be a singer and has spent the greater part of this year balancing her TV schedule with time in the studio preparing her debut country album.

“It’s worked out kind of perfectly,” Hale said to CMT Radio. “We just wrapped season four of Pretty Little Liars. … It just so happened that my radio tour starts in two weeks. That will be our biggest struggle — trying to balance both of them. But I’m ready for it. I’m ready to do it.”

With Sugarland’s Kristian Bush serving as a mentor on the project, she’s no doubt ready to tackle whatever is ahead.

Hale is scheduled to release her album early next year. The first single is titled “You Sound Good to Me.”

Samantha is a country radio insider with a deep love for the music and its stars. She can often be found on a red carpet or at a late-night guitar pull.
