George Strait will be joined by a superstar lineup for his final concert taking place June 7, 2014, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The announcement was made Tuesday (Nov. 19).
Jason Aldean, Kenny Chesney, Eric Church, Sheryl Crow, Ronnie Dunn, Vince Gill, Faith Hill, Alan Jackson, Miranda Lambert, Martina McBride and Lee Ann Womack are scheduled to perform three songs each at the 100,000-seat venue near Dallas. Asleep at the Wheel will open the show.
Tickets for the concert will go on sale Dec. 6 at 10 a.m. CT and can be purchased via Strait’s official website.
Strait last year announced plans to retire from touring. He resumes his Cowboy Rides Away tour on Jan. 9 in Bossier City, La. However, he will continue to record for MCA Records and is expected to perform select dates after the tour is completed.
Although Strait’s tour will include dates on May 23 at LSU’s Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, La., and May 31 at Gillette Stadium near Boston, the Arlington show will be the only one with such extensive star power. When the dates for his 2014 tour were revealed in September, it was announced that select shows would feature individual appearances by Aldean, Church, Crow, Dunn, Gill, Lambert, McBride, Womack, Merle Haggard, Little Big Town and Chris Young.
Strait, who was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2006, was named entertainer of the year at the recent CMA Awards in Nashville.
His current single, “I Got a Car,” is the third release from his 40th album, Love Is Everything. The song was written by Tony Douglas and Keith Gattis.
