Miley Cyrus Celebrating 21st Birthday on MTV

She'll Be Hosting Eight Hours of Programming Sunday

Miley Cyrus turns 21 on Saturday (Nov. 23), and her birthday present from MTV is the keys to the channel.

Beginning Sunday at 12 p.m. ET/PT — with the debut of 21 Candles: Miley’s MTV Moments, an all-new original special that looks back at her iconic music videos, performances and MTV milestones — the network is dedicating a full eight hours of programming to the reigning pop-culture queen. It will all be hosted by Cyrus herself.

Immediately following the premiere of 21 Candles, MTV will re-air the documentary Miley: The Movement Deluxe Edition with all-new commentary from the birthday girl. It will be followed by a pair of MTV shows she picked — Awkward and Snooki and JWOWW.

Throughout the day, fans who tweet birthday wishes using the hashtag #HappyBirthdayMiley or post Instagram video messages will have the chance to be featured on MTV throughout Cyrus’ on-air birthday bash.

Cyrus’ country connections are highlighted in an MTV.com story with the headline, “21 Things That Made Her Who She Is.” Among them, of course, are her father Billy Ray Cyrus and mother Tish, along with a mention of his TV series Doc. Longtime family friend Dolly Parton is noted, as well, for her recurring role as Aunt Dolly in Miley’s Hannah Montana TV series.

And what recap could be complete without a reference to Miley’s tongue-and-twerk performance on the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards?
