Why Jake Owen Is an Open Book

There are artists who keep their personal lives personal. And then there’s Jake Owen.

When he called Chicago country radio station WUSN to talk about his new album Days of Gold, the conversation quickly turned to his 1-year-old daughter Pearl and how he’s letting the world in on her adorableness.

“I had a long talk with my wife when we had Pearl about that,” Owen explained. “I said, ’You know what? One of the reasons I believe I’ve really gained a lot of fans is because … obviously I’d like to think a lot of it is my music, but I try to be really personable with my fans and people out there that wanna know about my life. And people are excited about Pearl. They wanna see her. They wanna see her kind of grow up. And I’m not afraid to share her with the world. I’m really proud of her, and my wife agreed.”

So he uses social media as his way of opening his virtual family album for his fans and followers.

“Over time, here and there, we’ll post little photos of her,” he said.

That kind of open-photo-album policy may not work for every artist, but for Owen and his wife Lacey, it does.

“Where I am in my life right now, it’s sometimes a bit scary to post personal photos of your family. But that’s my world, and I’m excited for people to be a part of it. I think it’s important to really connect with people and let them know that you care. If I just kind of shun them out, it’s not fair. They give me a whole lot, so I feel like I’ve gotta do that in return,” he said, adding, “I’m not really afraid of life.”

And now that Pearl is growing up, are the Owens ready for another baby?

“No, I’m good right now,” Owen revealed. “We’re just practicing.”
