If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Right, Jake Owen?
If a musical partnership turns to chart-topping gold, then why break up a happy creative collaboration? That’s exactly why Owen chose Joey Moi to once again sit in the producer’s chair when they recorded his just-released Days of Gold album.
Moi, known for his work with everyone from Santana to Daughtry to Nickelback, made his first splash on the country scene by co-producing Owen’s previous album, Barefoot Blue Jean Night. When that splash become a certifiable smash, it was clear that Owen and Moi were a good musical match. So when the time came to assemble the team for his fourth album, Owen knew he had to work with him again.
During a recent conversation, Owen told me that when he listens to a new song for the first time, he automatically thinks of how Moi would put his spin on it.
“I mean, I’ll listen to a demo, and the first thing I think to myself is, ‘Man, I can’t wait until Joey produces this song,'” he said. “Because the demo sounds awesome, but if it sounds this good on a demo, the song is gonna sound way better. Even songwriters have told me that. They’ve been like, ‘Gosh, man, I can’t wait to hear your songs when y’all record them because Joey just makes them sound so good.'”
Indeed he does. Without a doubt, Days of Gold is a standout project for Owen. Oh, and in case you need more proof of Moi’s impressive pedigree, he’s also Florida Georgia Line‘s producer, so “Cruise” on that one!
