We get it, Kelly Clarkson. We, too, might feel a little strangely addressing one of country music's icons like Reba McEntire as "mom."

No pressure, right?

Back in October, Clarkson tied the knot with her main squeeze, Brandon Blackstock, aka McEntire's stepson. It was the perfect wedding -- an intimate ceremony at what Clarkson called "the most beautiful place ever," Blackberry Farm in East Tennessee.

But long before Clarkson and Blackstock made their union official, the pop star was already kind of a part of the McEntire/Blackstock family. Clarkson and McEntire had been friends for years -- in fact, very close friends. This was even before Brandon Blackstock, who is the son of McEntire's husband Narvel Blackstock, came into the romantic picture.

Clarkson and McEntire taped a killer episode of CMT Crossroads together. They re-released Clarkson's smash single "Because of You" together. They became hangout buddies!

This year, McEntire joined Clarkson and Trisha Yearwood in the studio for an exquisite rendition of "Silent Night" for Clarkson's new holiday album, Wrapped in Red.

And still, Clarkson admits it's a little bit surreal -- in the best possible way -- knowing that one of your childhood musical idols now holds one of the most treasured roles in your personal life.

"It's like your friend is becoming your mother-in-law and your mentor!" Clarkson gushed with a laugh. "You know, she's a big mentor for me, too, not only musically but professionally."

A mentor, maternal figure and everlasting friend she will always be to Clarkson ... and now, to the singer's first little bundle of joy. McEntire will be adding "grandma" to the mix of roles she plays in Clarkson's life, as Clarkson and Blackstock have announced they are expecting their first child together.

I guess it's true what they say -- the best relationships, no matter their nature, really do begin as great friendships.
