Exclusive Video: Rascal Flatts’ “Compass”

Diane Warren Song Featured in Heaven Is for Real

No pressure, Rascal Flatts. But could you please make a video about a boy who goes to heaven and then comes back? And could you make the music sound as Christian as it does country? And can Jesus play a part in it?

By now, you likely know about Heaven Is for Real , the story of Colton Burpo, the 4-year-old son of a Nebraska pastor who had a near-death experience during surgery but lived to talk about his journey to and from heaven. It was a No. 1 New York Times best-seller, and now it’s been made into a movie.

Rascal Flatts has a song — “Compass” — which closes the film, and the new video shows bits and pieces of the movie that will be in theaters on April 16 (the day before Holy Thursday).

The piano ballad, written by songwriting powerhouse Diane Warren, feels like the perfect fit for the uplifting message of the movie:

When you’re in the darkness
And this world feels heartless
I will see you, hear you, reach you
I am standing by
And when you’re lost and think no one can find you
I will remind you you’re not alone
I will be there, I’ll be the one to guide you
My love will be your compass
I will lead you home

The story in the book is told by Colton’s father Todd Burpo, the pastor of Crossroads Wesleyan Church in Imperial, Neb.
