It all adds up. Eli Young Band’s 10,000 Towns equals a No. 1 debut on this week’s Billboard country albums chart. Nielsen SoundScan says the album sold 35,947 copies to seize that spot.
There are five other album debuts to note. David Nail’s I’m a Fire rolls in at No. 3 on first-week sales of 23,434 units, followed by Kevin Fowler’s How Country Are Ya? (No. 9), Sundy Best’s Bring Up the Sun (No. 11), Dallas Smith’s Tippin’ Point EP (No. 31) and Rascal Flatts’ Rewind EP (No. 40).
Parading in directly behind “Compass” on the songs list are Jason Aldean’s “When She Says Baby” (last week’s No. 1), Bentley’s “I Hold On,” Frankie Ballard ’s “Helluva Life” and Blake Shelton’s “Doin’ What She Likes.”
For this edition of title tunes — in which the object is to link current song titles on the chart to suggest a larger storyline — we submit “I Hold On/Who I Am With You,” “Love is War/Sober,” “Look at You/Close Your Eyes” and “Hope You Get Lonely Tonight/Looking for That Girl.”
Puerile? You bet. Asinine? Without a doubt. But genius comes with a price tag.
