CMT kicks off Can’t Stop Laughing Week on Sunday (March 23) with the premiere of an all-new Ron White comedy special. The comedian will host his Salute to the Troops 2014 from the stage of the Mirage Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
Can’t Stop Laughing Week will also include the premiere of Jeff Dunham’s Achmed Saves America, new episodes from the hit series Party Down South and My Big Redneck Family and some of CMT’s favorite comedy films of all time.
For Salute to the Troops 2014, comedians Kathleen Madigan, Josh Blue, Roy Wood Jr., Gabriel Iglesias and Geechy Guy will join White, who says he has a personal investment in his continued support of the United States military.
“Well, just from visiting Walter Reed [National Military Medical Center]. The first time we went, I went with the Blue Collar boys, and I was talking to this guy holding his two-year-old daughter in the only limb he had left,” said White. “I went outside and just cried like a baby. I’m like, ’God, there’s gotta be something I can do,’ you know? And what I do isn’t enough. It’s our responsibility, so I take it pretty personally.
“It’s also touched our lives. A dear friend of ours’ son came back from two years in Afghanistan and killed himself. PTSD [Post Traumatic Stress Disorder], and now his father’s got it. [With] PTSD, you take your life, you’re gonna give that to somebody else. And there’s hope. There really is hope. … We think it’s a good way to spend our time and effort, and to make a small difference.”
White says the partnership with CMT means a great deal in raising awareness.
“I’m lucky to have CMT as a partner and a platform that I can get on and spout off that message,” he said. “These are our kids, you know? You’ve gotta take care of them.”
