Darius Rucker Tees It Up for Charities

He'll Be Hosting Golf Tournaments in Las Vegas and Nashville

Darius Rucker loves his golf game — and for good reason. After all, it’s a break from reality.

“First of all, I love being outside, and I get outside so little, really, if you look at the whole thing,” he says. “I mean … it’s me against the course. I love that.”

If you think about it, golfing is the perfect sport for the busy men of music. In the hectic world of touring, writing, recording and promoting your music, you can easily find yourself completely overwhelmed. Golfing is the perfect antidote. It’s laidback and quiet — two qualities I’ve never really been good at, so I’ll have to take Rucker’s word for it.

Or I guess I can take the word from Charles Kelley of Lady Antebellum or Jake Owen. In fact, Owen is such a good golfer, he was on track to go pro before injuring his shoulder in a wakeboarding accident. Although it sidelined his golf dreams, it’s safe to say it all turned out well for him in his current career.

Rucker is set to return as host of the Academy of Country Music Lifting Lives Celebrity Golf Classic on April 5 in Las Vegas. Kelley and Owen will be joining him, along with Frankie Ballard , Scotty McCreery, Cole Swindell and many others.

The event will raise funds for the ACM Lifting Lives’ Diane Holcomb Emergency Relief Fund, which will enable the nonprofit organization to respond quickly to the unforeseen, immediate financial needs of music-related organizations and individuals.

And Rucker isn’t stopping his charitable golfing in Vegas, either. He’s also set to bring back his fifth annual Darius and Friends Celebrity Golf Tournament on June 3 in Nashville. The night before, he’ll also host his Darius and Friends benefit concert at the Wildhorse Saloon. His special guests will be revealed soon.

Rucker’s charity tournament, auction and concert will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis. Last year, the singer raised more than $95,000 for the charity. Presale tickets are now available online through Rucker’s official website .
