Hear the Band Perry Sing Elton John's "Grey Seal"

Country Trio Add Banjo, Family Harmony to Remake

The Band Perry infuse Elton John's "Grey Seal" with boisterous banjo and family harmony for the deluxe edition of the pop star's enduring 1973 album, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.

Buoyed by the singles "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting," "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road," "Candle in the Wind" and "Bennie and the Jets," the double-album sold 7 million copies in the U.S. and 31 million worldwide, accelerating John's path to superstardom.

The Band Perry's recording of the album track "Grey Seal" will be featured on the deluxe and boxed set editions. Other musical tributes are offered by the Zac Brown Band ("Harmony") and Hunter Hayes ("Goodbye Yellow Brick Road"), as well as Ed Sheeran, Emelí Sandé, Fall Out Boy, Imelda May, John Grant and Miguel featuring Wale. The collections will be released Tuesday (March 25), coinciding with John's 67th birthday.

"We were a band reaching our zenith at that point," John told USA Today. "Things were escalating, and the momentum was exciting. This is before I started drugs and drinking. This was pure Elton."

Despite its length, the original project was completed in 17 days at an 18th-century chateau near Paris. He was 26 years old when the album was released.

"This was only the third record with the band. We found our direction and were at our most confident," the singer-songwriter said. "All my original influences were on it. It was an outpouring of everything that was inside me at that time. We were on a roll and we had adrenaline on our side. It was the beginning of our ascent to the top. It was magic."
