If you saw Sunday’s (April 6) ACM Awards , you probably caught a glimpse of Mr. and Mrs. Perfect. Tim McGraw and Faith Hill performed a song that will be on his next album. It’s called “Meanwhile Back at Mama’s.” With McGraw in a tuxedo and Hill in a strapless gown, it looked like he’d marry her all over again.
Then, there was his tweet that came the morning after the ACMs.
“Great fun singing with my wife last night!!!!! Seeing Faith walk out in that dress for the 1st time took my breath away. Hard to recover,” McGraw tweeted.
That is social-networking romance at its finest.
(That dress Hill was wearing, by the way, was a shimmery champagne floor-length Versace gown.)
Since McGraw didn’t tag his wife with her @faithhill Twitter handle, she didn’t respond to his tweet. Maybe she will. Maybe she won’t. But after almost 18 years of marriage, forever is looking pretty good on both of them.
The song itself was a nostalgic look back at the little familiar things in life you might have taken for granted. Like how supper’s on the stove and beer’s in the fridge, the game’s on the tube and daddy smokes cigarettes, and whiskey keeps his whistle wet. And nostalgia is something McGraw has always done very well.
Remember his 1998 hit “Where the Green Grass Grows”? Or his 2002 song “Home”? Or his 2004 tune “Back When”?
In fact, when I reflect on some of my favorites from his 20-year career in country music, it’s like I’m always looking back on McGraw looking back.
McGraw’s new album Sundown Heaven Town is set for release Sept. 16.
