Jamie Lynn Spears Felt Welcome at ACM Awards

Jamie Lynn Spears is used to fame. Well, one kind of fame. As the star of Nickelodeon's Zoey 101 for three years, Spears spent just enough time in Hollywood to get the hang of being a child star.

But this country music kind of fame? That's different. Now that Spears has released the single "How Could I Want More" to country radio, it's almost like she's starting the celebrity thing all over again. And she told me it's been a little nerve-wracking.

"Being at the ACM Awards was so cool. I mean, I haven't been to awards shows since I was a kid," Spears told me when she was in Chicago on Thursday (April 10). "And I have definitely never been to one as an artist in the country world. So I was really nervous. But then the first day I was there in Las Vegas, at the show rehearsals, Lee Brice sang 'Happy Birthday' to me. After that, I was like, 'OK, now everything's gonna be OK.'"

Brice calming her nerves was just one of the things that helped Spears feel welcome in a world where she considers herself a fan.

"A lot of people I like and have looked up to for years were there. That was nerve-wracking, but everyone was so nice. And so I definitely felt very welcome. I still have a lot of work to do with this first album," she said, "and I have my heart attached to it."

That first album doesn't have a name or a release date yet, but Spears promised she'd reveal more details "soon."

"I wanted to make sure that first single was perfect before we released it. And now I just want to make sure the rest of the songs are perfect, too," Spears said. "Because you only get one chance to introduce yourself as an artist."
