In a recent interview, Urban revealed why he chose the hot young stars to join him on the upcoming wild ride.
“I had heard Jerrod’s record as it was being done because Jimmie Lee Sloas is a friend of mine, and he’s producing it, and so he sent me some tracks,” Urban said. “Literally, it was when I heard about six tracks off that record, I immediately wanted to see if he would come out and join us.”
Niemann’s new album High Noon is a mix of pop country goodness, a few ballads and even a few kickin’ tracks that could be at home at a dance club. He’s very hands-on when it comes to the production of his albums and inspired by all genres of music.
Lest we forget, Urban is the man who has admitted to digging certain Britney Spears songs. And there’s nothing wrong with that.
As for Eldredge, the “Beat of the Music” singer was a shoo-in for the other slot on the tour.
“We’d already done the tour in Canada together,” Urban said of Eldredge. “He’s just an incredible singer, a cool cat, and he’s got a great record, too.”
So let’s go over our checklist. To win the musical heart of Urban and an opening spot on his tour, you’ll need:
1. A killer record of innovative and fun songs
2. The voice and presence to deliver those songs in concert
3. An irresistibly cool personality
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to try and write an innovative and fun song. I’ve got some serious catching up to do.
Urban’s Raise ’Em Up tour opens in the U.S. with new staging and production on July 17 in Atlantic City, N.J.
