Martina McBride Brings Everlasting Music on Tour

Singer Hopes to Recreate the Throwback Feel of Her No. 1 Album

Martina McBride will take a timeless sound on the road when she kicks off her Everlasting tour in May. If the No. 1 success of her album of the same name is any indication of how the tour will rate with fans, she has a promising summer trek in her future.

“It’s really special and gratifying,” McBride confided to CMT Hot 20 Countdown about the album’s debut at the top of Billboard‘s country albums chart. “You never know how people are going to react to it — whether they’re going to like it or not like it — so it’s always a little nerve-wracking to put any new music out. It feels good when you work so hard on a project that you really believe in and love, and people accept it.”

Rehearsals are already underway for the tour, set to kick off May 8 in Salinas, Kan., and McBride sees her new show as a dream being realized. She plans to make the whole thing seem straight out of ’60s and ’70s, just like her album’s R&B flavor.

“It’s coming out exactly as I dreamed it,” she said. “It’s so much fun, and I want it to really be a visual experience for the audience as well as a musical experience. So, it’s a little bit of a throwback to Motown. We’ve got the guys all in matching suits. I’ve got a horn section for the first time — a four-piece horn section. We’ve got a three-piece background vocal section. I’ve never carried a background vocal section, so that’s a lot of fun.”

With the addition of these details and many more, a great deal of excitement has begun to surround the tour. The singer says it’s like nothing she’s seen before.

“I think it’s really unique and fresh, and the fact that we only get to do it for a short period of time is … I’m missing it before it even starts,” McBride admitted. “So I really hope people come out and experience it because it’s gonna be really special.”
