At Tuesday (April 29) night’s Time 100 Gala in New York City, Carrie Underwood walked the red carpet and gave reporters a little update on everything from her recent Turks and Caicos vacation to her need for space during the music-making process.
But first, Underwood’s husband Mike Fisher talked about what it’s like living with someone who’s writing for a record.
“She’s actually real busy doing a lot of writing and stuff. I stay out of her way. I go golfing or go fishing or something,” he told Us Weekly.
And it sounds like Underwood agrees that that’s for the best.
“He stays away,” she admitted. “That whole creative process is such a weird thing, and I’ve talked to other people in the music business and friends and what they do, and we all kind of have our own ’isms. I go in and I’m, like, caffeinated. I get jacked up on caffeine, and then I come home and crash.”
She has been writing “quite a bit” for the new album and said it has a different sound.
“There are some thematic things that are quite different,” she said. “I love strong women, so I want things that I can get onstage and just feel empowered.”
Rest assured, the couple still seems to have that newlywed vibe. They like to have the occasional romantic dinner out and time alone (but together) with a glass of wine.
As for summer plans, when Underwood isn’t playing the 10 or so shows on the fair and fest circuit, she’ll likely be hanging out in Canada with Fisher’s family.
“I like lakes,” she said. “I like to be able to go fishing or be on a boat with friends, grilling, you know, and a beer or something.”
