Scotty McCreery Robbed in North Carolina

Singer and Friends Unharmed in Incident Near North Carolina State University Campus

American Idol winner Scotty McCreery and his friends were robbed early Monday (May 5) by three armed men who broke into an apartment in Raleigh, N.C. No one was injured.

McCreery, 20, a student at North Carolina State University, was visiting with friends when the robbers entered the apartment and demanded their wallets and money, according to the Raleigh News & Observer newspaper.

Five people were at the apartment when the break-in occurred shortly before 2 a.m., WRAL-TV in Raleigh reported. The thieves also took their cellphones. Authorities told the TV station it’s unclear whether the apartment had been specifically targeted.

McCreery, who won season 10 of American Idol, graduated from high school in Garner N.C., in 2012. During his senior year, he continued to pitch for the school’s baseball team while spending weekends as the opening act on Brad Paisley’s tour. He has been studying at North Carolina State University while continuing to pursue his country music career.

His hits include “I Love You This Big,” “The Trouble With Girls” and “See You Tonight.” His current single, “Feelin’ It,” has climbed to No. 42 on Billboard’s country airplay chart just three weeks after its release. The track is featured on his latest album, See You Tonight, released in October 2013.

The singer had returned to Raleigh following concert dates Thursday in St. Louis, Friday in Louisville, Ky., and Saturday in Birmingham, Ala. His next scheduled date is Friday (May 9) at Buck Owens’ Crystal Palace club and restaurant in Bakersfield, Calif.
