Alan Jackson Explores Hollywood Connection

He Works With 'Family Guy''s Seth McFarlane on New Film

Who would have thought country icon Alan Jackson and Family Guy's Seth MacFarlane would be on each other's radar?

They are, however, and Jackson has recorded "A Million Ways to Die" as the title track to MacFarlane's upcoming film, A Million Ways to Die in the West.

MacFarlane personally approached the country legend to sing the tune and, boy, did Jackson sing it.

At least it's not "Thunder Buddy Song" from MacFarlane's 2012 blockbuster, Ted, although Jackson could make just about anything sound classic with his timeless voice.

Are we to assume MacFarlane is a closet country music fan? And, more specifically, is he a fan of Jackson and his music?

If so, I don't know why that very notion would surprise me -- or should surprise any of us. The line between L.A. and Nashville is so heavily blurred right now, so any assumption that a Tinseltown type can't possibly be a country fan perpetuates a stereotype just as unfair as one suggesting a country music fan can't possibly relate to the glitz and glamour of Hollywood.

The country presence in Hollywood is at an all-time high. Dwight Yoakam and Tim McGraw are movie stars. Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift are internationally-known household names. Blake Shelton is a force to be reckoned with on NBC's The Voice. Heck, Brad Paisley was featured on an episode of South Park, and he and his wife Kimberly Williams-Paisley will appear Thursday (May 8) in the season finale of Two and a Half Men.

So when will MacFarlane put Jackson in an episode of Family Guy? I'm thinking Peter Griffin gets busted singing Jackson karaoke by Jackson himself. (We can always dream.)

A Million Ways to Die in the West stars MacFarlane, Oscar-winner Charlize Theron, Liam Neeson, Amanda Seyfried, Giovanni Ribisi, Sarah Silverman and Neil Patrick Harris. The film hits theaters May 30. The soundtrack album arrives May 27, but Jackson's recording of "A Million Ways to Die" is already available on iTunes.
