Scotty McCreery: Armed Robbery Was a "Very Scary Night"

Police in Raleigh, N.C., Searching for Three Gunmen in Apartment Break-In

Scotty McCreery says it was "definitely a very scary night" when he and four friends were robbed at gunpoint early Monday morning (May 5) in a home invasion in Raleigh, N.C.

Raleigh Police Department investigators are searching for the three men who broke into an apartment near the campus of North Carolina State University, where the 20-year-old singer is in his sophomore year. No one was injured in the altercation.

"Yes, it was definitely a very scary night," McCreery tweeted later Monday. "Luckily, my friends and I are safe, and the Raleigh PD is on the case. I will share more when the time is right, but as of now, we do not want to do or say anything that could hinder the investigation.

"Thanks to everyone for their prayers and support. A huge thank you to the Raleigh PD for their quick response and hard work in solving this case."

McCreery's mother told WRAL-TV in Raleigh the American Idol winner traveled to the family's home in his hometown of Garner, N.C., following the incident.

A resident of the apartment called 911 from the bedroom immediately after his friends were held at gunpoint in the living room. "We got robbed," he told dispatchers. "They are all freaked out."

The robbers took money, wallets and electronic devices after breaking into the apartment shortly before 2 a.m. The thieves instructed the victims to remain on the floor and count to 100 before getting up.

Investigators are working to compile descriptions of the suspects.

McCreery, who won season 10 of American Idol, is attending North Carolina State while continuing his music career.
