Suspect Arrested in Scotty McCreery Robbery

Authorities Holding 19-Year-Old Man on $375,000 Bond

Police in Raleigh, N.C., have arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with the home invasion and armed robbery of Scotty McCreery and his friends early Monday morning (May 5), according to WRAL-TV in Raleigh.

Investigators say Mikkail Jamal Shaw of Raleigh and two other men forced their way inside an apartment shortly before 2 a.m. and forced McCreery and three friends to lie face down at gunpoint. No one was injured, but an arrest warrant states that Shaw and the other two men used a pistol and assault rifle to threaten the victims before fleeing the scene with two wallets, three cellphones and a computer.

Shaw was being held on a $375,000 bond Wednesday morning in the Wake County jail and is scheduled to make his first court appearance at 2 p.m. After turning himself in to police, he was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.

The investigation is continuing, and law officers are searching for the other two suspects.

"Yes, it was definitely a very scary night," McCreery tweeted following the robbery. "Luckily, my friends and I are safe, and the Raleigh PD is on the case. I will share more when the time is right, but as of now, we do not want to do or say anything that could hinder the investigation.

"Thanks to everyone for their prayers and support. A huge thank you to the Raleigh PD for their quick response and hard work in solving this case."

The robbery took place at apartment near the campus of North Carolina State University, where the 20-year-old singer is completing his sophomore year. McCreery, who won season 10 of American Idol, is attending college while continuing his music career.
