Dierks Bentley Flies High on 2014 CMT Music Awards

Singer Performs "Drunk on a Plane" on the Show

Dierks Bentley raised a glass -- and the roof on the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville on Wednesday night (June 4) -- during his 2014 CMT Music Awards performance, flying high with his latest single, "Drunk on a Plane."

Not literally, of course. The easygoing singer opted not to make use of wires or harnesses and instead delivered a straightforward rendition with both feet planted firmly on the ground. The cheeky song about going on a honeymoon alone comes from his album Riser.

That's not to suggest his performance was boring, though. Bentley hired a crew of dirty-dancing flight attendants to take care of the audience during this journey, and they definitely gave new meaning to the term "in-flight entertainment."

Who says flying isn't what it used to be?

Bentley's voice was in fine form, and the singer was dressed casually in a black T-shirt, black jeans and boots.

We should have suspected Bentley would be taking off in style. He showed up on the red carpet before the show decked out in his pilot's uniform from the song's hilarious video. With a red Solo cup in hand and fake mustache firmly applied, he and Luke Bryan held an impromptu photo shoot before the "Captain" split to find a bar.

Bentley will take the stage Thursday night (June 5) at LP Field in Nashville as part of the CMA Music Festival's nightly concert series before heading back out on the road -- and up into the clouds -- with shows scheduled through the end of September.
