Luke Bryan Makes It Look Easy on 2014 CMT Music Awards

Proves He's a Master of Working the Crowd While Singing "Play It Again"

Luke Bryan made everything look so easy when he worked the crowd at the 2014 CMT Music Awards , you almost wonder how much work is really involved in becoming one of country music’s most successful entertainers.

Of course, consummate professionals always make things seem effortless, and Bryan has obviously figured that out.

Bryan chose to enter through a corridor at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena for his performance of his No. 1 hit, “Play It Again.” The crowd couldn’t have been more excited as they gravitated toward him as he walked down the aisle singing while greeting fans and shaking their hands along the way.

By the time he reached the stage, scores of fans were convinced they’d had an up-close-and- personal moment with a country superstar.

It was Bryan’s second performance at Wednesday night’s (June 4) ceremony. He helped open the show with Florida Georgia Line on “This Is How We Roll” before he and the duo began swapping lines with pop star Jason Derulo on his hit, “Talk Dirty.”

Bryan and Lionel Richie shared an award for CMT performance of the year for their work on “Oh No/All Night Long” during the 2013 CMT Artists of the Year special.

“I’m speechless,” Bryan said in accepting the award with Richie. “I cannot believe I’ve had the opportunity to hang with this guy, to be in his presence, to watch him light up a room. He has that amazing ability.”

When a pro is busy making everything look easy, a little humility only adds to the attraction. That’s another quality Bryan has achieved.

Calvin Gilbert has served as’s managing editor since 2002. His background includes stints at the Nashville Banner, Radio & Records and Westwood One.
