Carrie Underwood Gets Tangled Up at CMT Music Awards

She Credits Fans During Backstage Interview

When Carrie Underwood finally caught her breath backstage at the 2014 CMT Music Awards on Wednesday night (June 4), she promptly thanked her fans for their loyalty.

"I know I have the best fans in the world. Voting, no voting -- they've always been a thousand percent behind me," she said. "It's definitely really, really nice, I think, for all of us. That's how I got here in the first place. People voted for me, so I hope they feel very proud, too."

Underwood enjoyed quite a bit of time on the Bridgestone Arena stage. During the first half of the show, she invited Alan Jackson to come up and accept his Impact Award. And near the end of the night, she teamed with Miranda Lambert for a tantalizing new duet, "Something Bad."

In the final minutes of the show, the singer's name was called in the category for video of the year. She received the buckle trophy for her beautiful project, "See You Again."

Asked by CMT about the highlight of the night, she replied, "I mean, just being here with my husband and best friend. And definitely the performance. But it's such a fun night for country music. I never expected at all to win video of the year. I am still kind of flabbergasted, like, what just happened? It's been such an amazing night."

Even with all the glitz and glamour that goes along with a big show, Underwood remained humble and gracious. With a beaming smile, she added, "I am going to go home and process it all as I'm brushing the tangles out of my hair ... getting all my hairspray out."
