Cassadee Pope's Winning Moment at 2014 CMT Music Awards

Says Fans and Social Media Were Her Secret to Success

Cassadee Pope didn't have to think twice when asked about her personal highlight at the 2014 CMT Music Awards.

"Winning a CMT award!" she said.

Pope's "Wasting All These Tears" resulted in a belt buckle trophy for breakthrough video of the year.

"Oh, my gosh," she said following Wednesday's (June 4) awards show at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena. "I had no idea. I didn't think I had a fighting chance. Hearing my name called, it was a mixture of excitement and kind of stress. It was just a real moment. My mom got to be there. It was a great night."

Pope, who hosted Verizon's Twitter tracker segments at the awards show, said she's benefited from social media throughout her career.

"I love doing the Twitter tracker because it really is the way I stay connected with my fans all the time," she said. "The fact that they helped me win this award and I got the word out through Twitter, the whole night was like a full circle. I owe a lot to CMT, I owe everything to my fans, but Twitter has really played a huge part in my career."

The Florida native was crowned the winner of NBC's The Voice in 2012. After winning the talent competition, the activities surrounding the recording sessions and promotion for her first country solo album were documented in a CMT series, Cassadee Pope: Frame by Frame.

"Wasting All These Tears," a Top 10 hit, was the first single from Frame by Frame, her debut album for Republic Nashville.
