“I’m not one of those people who can sorta half-ass something,” Tim McGraw says.
And one look at those washboard abs tells you he’s not lying about that as he talks of his fitness regimen to Men’s Health magazine.
The 47 year-old superstar is heating up the cover of the magazine and spilling the secrets to his ridiculous fit body. He also talks about how he changed his lifestyle habits and truly transformed his entire life.
McGraw is more candid than ever these days about his journey from hard living on the road to the clean and confident life he’s enjoying now. He’s now matured and mellowed quite a bit, and the “Meanwhile Back at Mama’s” singer admits he should have listened to his mama back in the day.
In the Men’s Health interview, he revealed that early in his career, he was so nervous to get onstage that a few drinks weren’t simply a fun pleasure before a show. He viewed them as a necessity, and his mother had serious concerns about his attitude.
“I remember my mom tellin’ me, ‘Y’know, if you don’t get up there a couple times without doing that, it’s gonna be a problem,'” he said.
And she was right.
“I drank too much. … I partied too much. And did other things too much. Chemically. No needles or that kind of stuff, but … use your imagination,” McGraw said.
But that was then, and this is now. No more beer. Only a buff bod.
During McGraw’s photo shoot with the magazine, he apparently showed off his best fitness moves, like “high-box step-ups,” “core-building twists with heavy chains,” and “plyometric pushups.”
His workout routine is as hardcore as it seems.
“I’ll be the first to admit, I take it to extremes,” he said.
