We’ve all heard the incessant complaints that today’s country music is all about that rural to-do list that every guy has in the pocket of his pearl-snap on a Friday night. We’re talking about tailgates down, beer in the cooler and so on.
But I think there may be a new trend that’s about to come on strong. Move over bro-country. It’s time for songs about the Good Old Days. Or, as I’m going to call them from here on out, G.O.D. songs.
So instead of looking forward to what’s going to happen this Friday night, these new tunes look back and pine for what used to happen on Friday nights (and every other day of the week, for that matter).
3. “Dirt,” Florida Georgia Line I know nothing about this song yet because it doesn’t arrive at radio stations until Tuesday (July 8), but the band has promised it is going to be a nostalgic ballad.
5. “I Got a Car,” George Strait These really were the good old days when all you needed was a car — no moonshine, no remixes, no pyro — to get a girl to fall in love with you, run away with you and start a family with you.
