Taylor Swift Performing Live Sunday on MTV Video Music Awards

Lucy Hale Will Host Pre-Show Telecast

While the country music community speculates about her future musical direction, Taylor Swift will take the stage this weekend at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards . The event airs live Sunday (Aug. 24) at 9 p.m. ET/PT from the Forum in Inglewood, California.

She’ll join a list of performers that includes Jessie J, Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande, who will open the show with their first-ever live performance of their hit “Bang, Bang.” The show will also feature performances by Usher, 5 Seconds of Summer, Maroon 5, Iggy Azalea, Beyoncé and Sam Smith. Pretty Little Liars star and country newcomer Lucy Hale is hosting the live pre-show telecast.

There’s no word on Swift’s song choice for the night, but don’t be surprised to hear her sing “Shake It Off,” her new single. She unveiled the dance-themed video during a live stream event from New York City on Monday afternoon (Aug. 18). It’s the first preview of Swift’s upcoming album, 1989, to be released on Oct. 27.

“For the record, this is my very first documented, official pop album,” she said in announcing the new project in front of a live studio audience.

Swift has a lengthy history with the VMAs, including closing the show with “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” in 2012. And who could forget her New York City taxi cab performance at the 2009 awards show? Of course, that achievement was overshadowed when her acceptance speech was interrupted by Kanye West, who grabbed the spotlight to say, “Yo, Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I’ll let you finish, but Beyoncé has one of the best videos of all time. One of the best videos of all time!”

It proves that anything can happen at the VMAs. To prepare yourself for Swift’s appearance, check out MTV.com’s story headlined “61 Times Taylor Swift (A.K.A. Slaylor Swift) Slayed The VMAs.”
