'George Strait: The Cowboy Rides Away' Premieres Friday on CMT

All-Star Special Captures His Goodbye to Widespread Touring

Even if you weren't among George Strait's 104,000 friends in Arlington, Texas, on June 7, it's still not too late to experience the excitement surrounding the last concert of his final national tour.

CMT premieres an exclusive two-hour special, George Strait: The Cowboy Rides Away, on Friday (Aug. 29) at 7 p.m. ET/PT.

The event was filmed at Strait's final tour date in Arlington, Texas, in June, with an all-star cast.

The special includes Strait's performances with Jason Aldean, Kenny Chesney, Eric Church, Sheryl Crow, Vince Gill, Faith Hill, Alan Jackson, Miranda Lambert and Martina McBride. Strait's son George "Bubba" Strait Jr. also performed "Arkansas Dave," a song he wrote for his dad.

George Strait: The Cowboy Rides Away is a historical account told through the music from the superstar's storied career. The special features new interviews with Strait, along with a selection of his No. 1 hits performed at the Texas show, including "Fool Hearted Memory," "I Can Still Make Cheyenne," "Check Yes or No" and "The Cowboy Rides Away."

Strait's final date of The Cowboy Rides Away Tour on June 7 shattered indoor concert attendance records for North America with more than 104,000 fans there to witness the final night of his two-year tour. The reigning ACM and CMA entertainer of the year amassed more No. 1 singles than any artist in any genre and is the only artist to chart a Top 10 hit every year for 30 years.

He will continue to record new music for longtime label home MCA Records and plans to perform select dates across the nation.

MCA Nashville, Strait's longtime label home, will release a live concert recording, The Cowboy Rides Away: Live From AT&T Stadium, on Sept. 16.
