If you’re looking for a “big bang” moment in the modern rise of hard-driving string bands, look no further than Old Crow Medicine Show.
To paraphrase Barbara Mandrell, they were Americana when Americana wasn’t cool. (Mandrell is a fan, too. ) So here at CMT Edge, our doors are always open for the boys. But lately, it’s been hard to pin them down.
Ever since Darius Rucker took their signature song, “Wagon Wheel,” to No. 1 and they subsequently joined the Grand Ole Opry, the band has been experiencing a second explosion of popularity. I mean, their latest album, Remedy, debuted at an astounding No. 4 on the Billboard country album chart.
Still, the folk-revival icons dropped by this summer and showed off four new songs from the album and a ton of positive energy that must come with their hard-earned success.
