Are the days of Zac Brown’s beanies long gone?
If you’ve seen recent concert photos of the beloved singer/songwriter/chef/businessman, you’ve probably noticed he’s been trading in his trademark beanie for stylish headwear, jackets and a much more debonair and dressier look.
And there’s a reason for that.
Brown is gearing up for some new adventures as he aligns his Southern Ground Artists in a strategic partnership with Big Machine Label Group (home to Taylor Swift and Tim McGraw, among others), Republic Records and John Varvatos Records.
Yep, the same John Varvatos who’s dominating men’s fashion these days, so maybe this explains the mystery of the missing beanie.
Brown revealed news of his new partnership to Billboard this past weekend while backstage at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas, noting it’s a one-in-a-million opportunity. He’s more than ready to get the ball rolling.
“I think we got the dream team together,” he said. He also revealed that he himself reached out to Varvatos to discuss partnering because of the designer’s incredible success as a multi-platform mogul, something the Georgia native knows a thing or two about.
“I don’t think anyone’s in his league or arena in what he does,” Brown added.
True, and who wouldn’t love that added perk of having one of the biggest names in fashion as a style consultant? Brown and his bandmates were all dressed head-to-toe in Varvatos for their performance during the festival.
“What I love is that I don’t have to think about it anymore,” he said.
The new business venture is just as exciting for the other partners involved. Big Machine’s label head Scott Borchetta admitted he’d wanted to work with Brown “from day one,” adding he’s always admired “the musicianship and the trueness of everything Zac and his band stand for.”
Well, they are some of music’s finest. And get excited, fans, because this new deal also involves new music. Apparently, the next Zac Brown Band album is tentatively scheduled for spring of 2015, although they haven’t started recording.
So what else will this partnership bring about for Brown — a future clothing line, perhaps? And will there be any changes in the band’s musical journey?
For a band that’s built an entire empire on unapologetic musical authenticity, I don’t know that I’d go that far. But we’ll just have to wait and see. Only time on a Varvatos designer watch will tell.
