Tyler Hubbard's Proposal Made Him "Nervous as Heck"

Florida Georgia Line Frontman Had the Diamond Ring for Three Weeks

When Florida Georgia Line's Tyler Hubbard proposed to his girlfriend Hayley Stommel on Monday night (Sept. 22), it was probably a big surprise for her. But Hubbard had been thinking about that night for at least three weeks.

Interviewed Tuesday by CMT.com, Hubbard admitted he was very careful in planning how and when to pop the question.

"I had the ring for about three weeks or so," Hubbard said. "I didn't know exactly how I wanted to do it, so I was trying to be patient with it."

And as for the helicopter ride where he actually asked Stommel to marry him, that idea came to him during a workout.

"I just met a guy last week on a private jet that we were on who happened to live 10 minutes from my house and have a helicopter," Hubbard said. "We just kind of hit it off.

"I don't know why, but it hit me one day. I was in the gym, and I thought (the helicopter ride) would be a cool way to still propose at the house but not very typically," Hubbard said of his big idea. "So we were flying around our property, and it was just a special time for us. And then we flew to dinner and got a private room and got to spend some time together alone, which doesn't happen very often for us."

Now that Stommel has said yes, I'm sure that has relieved some of Hubbard's anxiety over the lifetime commitment.

"It was a cool night," he admitted. "And, man, I was nervous as heck."
