Luke Bryan Snags Top Nod at American Music Awards

Bryan Nominated for Artist of the Year Alongside Beyoncé, Katy Perry and Others

Luke Bryan is among an elite group of musicians nominated in the artist of the year category at this year's American Music Awards. The nominees -- pulled from genres across the musical spectrum -- were announced Monday (Oct. 13) on Good Morning America.

It's been a massive year for Bryan, who scored four No. 1 songs in 2014 alone -- "Drink a Beer," "Play It Again," "This Is How We Roll" (with Florida Georgia Line) and "Roller Coaster."

His fourth studio album, Crash My Party, was certified double-platinum, and he's the reigning ACM entertainer of the year. During his stadium-filling That's My Kind of Night tour, the superstar broke the attendance record at Gillette Stadium near Boston with more than 60,000 fans.

In the AMA artist of the year division, Bryan will be up against Iggy Azalea, Beyoncé, Eminem, Imagine Dragons, John Legend, Lorde, One Direction, Katy Perry and Pharrell Williams. That list will be pared down to five before the Nov. 23 awards show on ABC.

Currently, Bryan is out on his annual Farm tour which raises money for rural students to attend college. Having grown up in a farming community, the cause remains close to Bryan's heart.

During last year's Farm tour stop in Macon, Georgia, he talked about being nominated for top honors at national awards shows.

"I mean, to be nominated in that category -- to be whispered about in the entertainer of the year-type situation -- is so special for me and so amazingly rewarding," he told CMT Hot 20 Countdown. "I truly love getting out here and entertaining fans, and I just love being in that category. I hope I can be nominated in the category for years to come because I'm gonna always work every year to be a better entertainer and a performer and a better singer."

The "Roller Coaster" singer was also nominated alongside Jason Aldean and Blake Shelton in the AMA's favorite male country artist category.

Also in the country division, favorite female artist nods went to Shelton's wife Miranda Lambert, Kacey Musgraves and Carrie Underwood, while the Eli Young Band, Florida Georgia Line and Lady Antebellum were revealed in the favorite band/group/duo category.

Rounding out the country categories is favorite album with Garth Brooks' Blame It on My Roots: Five Decades of Influences, Eric Church's The Outsiders and Brantley Gilbert's Just as I Am.

The American Music Awards will air live on ABC Nov. 23 at 8 p.m. ET.
