Will Luke Bryan Win Artist of the Year Honors at American Music Awards

Iggy Azalea, One Direction, Katy Perry and Beyoncé Also Up for Top Honor of the Night

Luke Bryan isn't just one of the hottest artists in country music. He's one of the hottest acts in all of music, and he's got an artist of the year nomination at the American Music Awards to prove it.

Bryan is in some stellar company in the night's biggest category with competition from rapper Iggy Azalea, boy band One Direction, pop superstar Katy Perry and, yes, the queen herself -- Beyoncé.

And Bryan's presence in the category isn't a token gesture to acknowledge country music. He belongs there with the best and brightest of them all.

Considering his astounding album sales, the sold-out tours, the fan demand, the numbers don't lie. It's Bryan's world, and we're all just living in it.

So let's break this down. If Bryan were to be named the AMA's artist of the year, it would be another notch on his 2014 awards show belt after being named the CMA's entertainer of the year and Billboard's top country artist. Of course, he's also one of five honorees at the CMT Artists of the Year special airing live Dec. 2 at 8 p.m. ET.

So will our country boy sweep the night at the American Music Awards? Will he blow the pop, rock, rap and R&B competition away and bring the top honor back home to Nashville?

Bryan isn't the only country star representing country music at the awards. He's also nominated alongside Jason Aldean and Blake Shelton for favorite male country artist while Miranda Lambert, Kacey Musgraves and Carrie Underwood are up for favorite female country artist. Lady Antebellum, the Eli Young Band and Florida Georgia Line are all nominees in the favorite country band, duo or group category.

Oh, and Garth Brooks is set to perform during the show as well. It doesn't get much better than that, does it? Well, maybe only if Bryan crashed Brooks' party and shook it onstage for the all of America to see. That would be my kind of night.

The American Music Awards show airs Sunday (Nov. 23) at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
